Financial Services Marketing: Market Like You Invest
· By Christian Görgen
Marketing in financial services is often made to look like rocket science.
In my experience, it is often not that deep.
FinTech brands just need to apply the same principles that they tell their customers all the time.
Here are 3 of them:
1. Don't put all your eggs in one basket
Every broker tells their clients to diversify.
Then they go and put 80% of their own marketing budget into 1-2 channel, usually paid search or affiliates, and cross their fingers.
Diversifying starts before you spend anything:
Define your target audience: Who they are, their trading experience, and what they need.
Select your GEOs: Understand competition and opportunities.
Match your products: Offer instruments and account types that fit the audience and market.
Identify the right channels: Find out where your audience is active.
Then dig into your own numbers. What is your internal marketing benchmark you want any new channels to measure against?
Understand what are your current benchmarks for: CPM, CPL, CPA, CR% and LTV.
Now you can split budgets like you would build a portfolio. Put more behind what has worked in the past, keep some aside for testing new things, and rebalance as the results come in. Want to sanity-check a single placement first? Our media deal calculator gives you a quick estimate of what it is worth.
And make peace with two things early on.
Not every channel will work. Some positions in a portfolio lose money. That is normal, and it is the whole point of spreading your bets. A channel that flops still tells you something, as long as the overall mix pays off.
Attribution in 2026 is basically broken. Cookie blockers, people switching devices, AI answers in search (Zero Click): you will never see the full journey from first touch to first deposit. Someone finds you through a creator, googles your name a week later on a corporate device at work and signs up on their personal smartphone.
Look at how the whole mix performs, not at who got the last click.
2. Time in the market beats timing the market
You have heard this one a hundred times: nobody can predict when markets move, so stay invested.
Same goes for customer acquisition. You never know when markets get volatile. But volatility is exactly what brings in new customers. Those big market moves are the moments when people finally do something.
Think of the guy who knows he really needs to sort out his retirement savings. He has been putting it off for months, maybe years. Then the market drops 10%. Suddenly stocks look cheap, everyone is talking about it, and this feels like the moment.
That is when you need to be ready.
The catch: you can't go from 0 to 100 overnight. Campaigns need setting up, creatives need signing off, partners need a briefing, and you don't rank on Google in a week. If you have been quiet all year, there is nothing to scale when it counts.
So you need a baseline that is always on. Big crashes don't happen often, but there is plenty going on in between that gets people active:
Be visible all year, and be ready to turn up the volume when it matters. Keep some budget flexible, have campaigns ready to go, and stay close to your media partners and creators, so you can scale up in days, not months.
3. Compounding
Compound interest gets called the eighth wonder of the world. Small gains, reinvested again and again, turn into something big.
Marketing works pretty much the same way.
1,000 qualified visitors a day from organic search alone sounds like a dream for most small brands right now.
But do the right things consistently, and you will get there.
And let's kill one myth: SEO does not take forever before anything happens. Yes, progress is slow. But you see it early, and it keeps going:
You can see it in the data. These three prop firms grew their organic search traffic month after month this year. No single big jump, just steady gains that add up: GOAT Funded Trader more than tripled, Tradeify grew 2.6x.

The same applies beyond search. Your social media following grows, engagement increases, and new customer reviews come in.
All these small improvements add up and reinforce each other.
More followers lead to more brand searches. Better rankings bring more visitors. More customers generate more reviews. Positive reviews build trust and improve conversion rates, making every other marketing channel more effective.
Over time, this creates a marketing flywheel. Each improvement builds on the next. Just like compound interest.
It's About Showing Up
Marketing in Online Trading is not about one perfect campaign, finding a magic channel or strong partner.
It's about showing up consistently. Diversify your channels, stay active throughout the year, and let the small wins compound over time.
Exactly what you tell your customers to do with their money.
