Broker vs Prop Firm Email Marketing in 2026: Industry Report
· By Christian Görgen
Brokers and prop firms are often targeting the same traders, but their email marketing couldn’t look more different.
To understand how the industry actually communicates with customers, (A)I analyzed 2,492 marketing emails from 31 brokers and prop firms between December 2025 and June 2026.
A few notable differences stood out.
While brokers fill inboxes with market updates, research and trading insights, prop firms rely much more heavily on promotions, discounts and reactivation campaigns.
While there are many factors at play, the business model is likely one of them. Brokers generally focus on long-term client activity and recurring trading revenue, whereas prop firms tend to operate closer to an ecommerce model centered around challenge sales.
Brokers Run Newsrooms
The biggest difference was the amount of market content brokers send.
Of all broker emails that could be classified by intent, 81.8% were market news, analysis or commentary.
What CFD Brokers Send in Their Email Marketing Campaigns
Example of broker subject lines:
- Daily Fix
- Morning Report
- Fed Preview
- NFP Outlook
- The Week Ahead
Rather than promoting offers, brokers spend most of their time keeping traders informed and engaged. Some brands are effectively publishing multiple pieces of market content every week and distributing them directly through email.
Promotional campaigns, meanwhile, are almost non-existent. Just 1% of classified broker emails contained a traditional promotional offer.
Compared to prop firms, it’s a completely different playbook.
Prop Firms Sell
The picture looks very different on the prop side.
While brokers spend most of their time explaining the market, prop firms spend much more time promoting challenges, discounts and special offers.
Promotional campaigns account for 31% of analysed prop firm email volume, while another 15.2% is dedicated to reactivation campaigns. In other words, almost half of all prop emails analysed are directly linked to generating a purchase or bringing traders back into the funnel.
What Prop Trading Firms Send in Their Email Marketing
Market content still plays an important role. In fact, 30.2% of prop trading emails focus on market news and trading-related content.
The difference is that market commentary shares space with commercial campaigns rather than dominating the inbox.
As a result, the experience feels very different.
Where brokers send analysis, prop firms send offers.
The 20–30% Discount Has Become The Industry Standard
One of the more interesting findings emerged when looking at prop firm promotions.
Across 162 emails where a specific discount percentage was mentioned, the typical discount was around 30%.
Discount Sizes Prop Firms Actually Use in Email Marketing
In fact, almost two-thirds of all promotions fell between 20% and 39%, suggesting that much of the industry has quietly converged around the same discount strategy.
The reality is that most firms are running variations of the same offer: 20%, 25% or 30% off, with only occasional campaigns pushing beyond 40%.
Looking at individual brands reveals some interesting differences.
PipFarm and QTFunded were among the most aggressive promoters, averaging discounts of 46.2% and 42.7% respectively. At the other end of the spectrum sat FTMO, Funding Pips and FundedNext, with average discounts of 12.5%, 16.4% and 20%.
While there are many factors behind promotional strategy, the data suggests that more established brands tend to rely less on discounting. Instead of competing on price, they appear to lean more heavily on reputation, trust and brand recognition.
Monday Owns The Inbox
The differences between brokers and prop firms are not limited to content. They also show up in when emails are being sent.
Monday was by far the busiest day in the dataset, accounting for 21% of all email volume. For brokers, the concentration was even stronger, with almost a quarter of all emails landing at the start of the trading week.
Best Day to Send Marketing Emails: Brokers vs Prop Firms
Timing within the day was equally concentrated. Nearly 38% of all emails were sent between 07:00 and 10:59 UTC, closely aligned with European market hours.
Best Time to Send Marketing Emails to Traders (UTC)
Interestingly, brokers tend to send earlier, peaking around 07:00 UTC, while prop firms are more active later in the morning and throughout the afternoon.
The takeaway is simple: email timing appears far from random. Most firms seem to be scheduling campaigns around when traders are most likely to be paying attention.
No Single CRM Platform Dominates
The final surprise came from the tech powering these programmes.
Across the 1,610 emails with tracking data, 13 distinct CRM platforms appeared.
Most-Used CRM and Email Platforms in Online Trading Marketing
Salesforce Marketing Cloud accounted for the largest share of tracked clicks. At the same time, platforms such as Optimove continue to play an important role across the industry, particularly among brands looking to combine CRM, segmentation, personalisation, and lifecycle marketing within a single platform.
What’s interesting is the lack of a clear market leader.
Rather than standardising around a handful of platforms, brokers and prop firms appear to be using a wide range of different solutions.
For an industry this mature, the technology landscape remains surprisingly fragmented.
Final Thoughts
While brokers and prop firms target many of the same traders, their email marketing playbooks look remarkably different.
From my own experience working in-house for both brokers and prop firms, one thing stands out: despite email being one of the most important revenue channels, many programmes are still surprisingly manual.
Segmentation is often limited. Automated journeys are underdeveloped. And many campaigns are still sent to large parts of the database with little personalization.
The bigger opportunity may lie in how messages are segmented, personalized and orchestrated throughout the customer lifecycle, rather than simply increasing email volume.
